Scholastic News <http://www.scholastic.com/scholasticnews> - Visit Scholastic News to stay informed about news written just for kids, as well as to take quizzes to test your knowledge. Science News for Kids <http://www.sciencenewsforkids.org> - Browse to this site for news about all sorts of science-related topics, from the environment to static electricity. Bill Nye the Science Guy <http://www.nyelabs.com> - Learn science from Billy Nye the Science Guy! Learn about experiments you can try at home! Scott Foresman History - Social Science <http://www.ca-hss.com> - This is the textbook's website, with videos, activities, and readings to help students further their content knowledge. Students will need their username and password (provided in class) to log in to this website. Gold rush website <http://pbskids.org/wayback/goldrush> - Visit this website to learn more about the gold rush and how it led to California's settlement. Poetry websites <http://www.gigglepoetry.com> & <http://www.poetry4kids.com> - You don't have to wait until the spring when the class studies poetry... get a head start now and check out some of the great poetry at these two websites. Math activites <http://illuminations.nctm.org> - The National Council on Teaching Mathematics (NCTM) provides this website of resources and activities for all students to learn math. Choose from 99 activities in a wide range of grade levels and topics! Multiplication practice <http://www.multiplication.com> - A variety of games and worksheets to practice multiplication facts. Students can work at their own pace and play as many times as they want. Math REVIEW by Houghton Mifflin <http://www.eduplace.com/kids/hmcam/g_4.html> - This website supports the math work we do from the textbook. Use this website to REVIEW concepts we have already covered in class. Please do not go ahead to a concept we have not covered yet.
Book Adventure <http://www.bookadventure.org> - This is a free program that motivates students to read. Students can get custom-made book recommendation lists by giving their grade level and book preferences. After students have read just-right books, they can take multiple choice comprehension quizzes on the books they've read. They earn points for their quizzes and can redeem those points for prizes. Scholastic Kids <http://www.scholastic.com/kids/index.asp> - This site offeres games, words of the week, kid polls, and many other fun activities. Discovery Kids <http://kids.discovery.com> - This site augments the Discovery Channel, where kids can find out what's playing, learn more information, play games, or watch live webcams. Yahoo! Kids <http://kids.yahoo.com> - This site's content and links are made for kids. There is a study zone that offers a directory, news articles, homework help, and a reference section. Other features includegames, music, movies, and jokes. Kidspace at the Internet Public Library <http://www.ipl.org/div/kidspace> - A large database of links and information on a world of topics, from science fairs, to zoos, to favorite authors and books. California State Board of Education Content Standards <http://www.cde.ca.gov/be/st/ss/index.asp> - CUSD has adopted the California content standards. At the CDE's website, you can find the standards for English Language Arts, Mathematics, History-Social Science, and Science. Within each subject, you can view and download by grade level. This site also includes test-taking strategies, brain teaser, and test prep practice. PayPams <https://paypams.com> - Pre-pay for students' school lunches online. It gives advice on common issues that parents face, introduces parents to PBS Kids programs, and provides guides to help parents support their children. A Parent's Guide to Internet Safety <http://www.fbi.gov/publications/pguide/pguide.htm> - This guide was published by the U.S. Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Investigation to provide parents with information about Internet safety for their children. It is available in both English and Spanish.
