Scholastic contests

Did you know that Scholastic offers monthly contests to get students writing? With each Scholastic catalog I receive is an invitation to students to enter a contest. To learn more about the contests and to encourage your child to participate, please visit www.scholastic.com/clubcontests. The contests currently open to 4th graders are: "If I were President..." and "Past, Present, and Future" (fliers for both these contests are posted in the classroom). All work must represent original ideas by the STUDENT.

For example, with the fall math catalog was a contest called "I See Math". I shared the contest information with the whole class,  and Ryan was the only one to participate. He just found out he was selected as one of the 10 runner-ups-- see his winning work online! As one of the winners, he received a 14-book Math Library. Congratulations Ryan!

Absences & tardies

If your child will be absent for any reason, please call the office at 408-252-5414, ext 6 by 8:30am to report the absence. This helps the office greatly, as they would otherwise have to call each absent student's home to figure out where they are.

School begins promptly at 8:00am each morning. According to SCHOOL POLICY, students who arrive at the classroom after this bell has rung are considered late and are sent to the office for a tardy slip. In addition, my classroom policy is that late students are benched for the first 10 minutes of morning recess. Please help your child be on time by aiming to be at school by 7:45am, so that you can account for traffic and other unexpected delays. Excessive tardies does negatively impact students' ability to be ready for the day.
